Planes

Awesome kids movie, great for the family and even for adults too.  In the world of Disney's Cars' there are planes too.  This is the story of a tiny little crop duster who believes he can make it around the world and win the World Cup Rally for planes.  Despite it being the voice of Dane Cook and a sleuth of other actors you don't normally think of being in a Disney movie.  Worth owning and watching, especially with your kids.

R.I.P.D.

I know this is based on a dark horse comic book, but jeez did this movie suck.  I'm normally a fan of of the actors and comic book movies even the bad ones but this had nothing worthy to talk about.  Don't own it and don't waste your time.

The Internship

Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson pair up again to offer us a movie worth watching.  The duo are old timers trying to figure out how they fit in the world with the growing use of the internet and non-human-to-human contact.  Just because your old doesn't mean your not worthy.  The movie was awesome and worth owning.

Red 2

A long time ago during the cold war we had super spies consisting of Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, and Hellen Mirren.  Today they are retired trying to pick up work where they can, but their pasts just keep coming back trying to put a bullet in them.  So rather than take it lying down they do what they do best.  Kick ass and shoot the bad guys.  No where near as good as the first one, but if you have two hours to waste and liked the first one it can be watched without to much an eye sore if your a fan of Bruce Willis's comedy movies.

Pacific Rim

If you are fan of Giant Robots and Godvilla than this is the movie to you.  I know the geeks started to complain about the physics, but IT'S A MOVIE!  This was an awesome movie with a lot of action.  The movie rekindles the fire of my youth.  A must own in blue ray

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

If you don't know what a Hobbit is, you are either a lost child or a very uneducated person.  As for the actual story of the Hobbit either I don't remember the story as well as I thought, or there is some embellishing going on.  Despite this, the movie keeps you moving in its action driven three hours.  Yes it has taken me this long to see it because the second part doesn't come out til December and their is no point in watching the first part of a movie if you aren't going to see the second part in the next few months, especially when they break a single book into two movies.  The visual effects make this movie a must see in HD.  I enjoyed the movie so much I had to pull out my book, blow off the dust and start reading it again.  Yes it is like that.  I would wait to buy it until they offer both movies together.

After Earth

Planet Earth has revolted against the Human Race causing us to flee to the stars.  Well apparently Will Smith and his son didn't realize this as they crash land on the home planet of the Human Race.  So Will Smith apparently did this for his son and a pile of cash?  Because there is no way I can figure out why he did this movie.  The saving grace are the cool tech in the movie.  If you have some time to waste here's an option.

The Great Gatsby

Once again we are getting a look at Fitzgerald's perception of the roaring twenties during prohibition.  The intrigue and the wonder put to Baz Luhrmann blending vision of the past and with the fast pace music of today help to capture the glitz and glamor of the time.  Fun to watch and better than Redford's which focused on the romance between Gatsby and the forbidden romance with Daisy.  If you like Moulin Rouge or anything else Luhrmann has done you will enjoy this.

This is the End

Once again Seth Rogan and his gang of misfits are trapped in the end of the world in who would believe it James Franco's house.  Danny McBride and the rest of this cast are awesome together.  The interesting concept is that all Hollywood Actors aren't able to go to heaven, including Hermine Granger.  If you liked Hot Tub Time Machine and anything Seth Rogan has done you are going to like this.  Buy it, watch it and Take your Panties off!

Monsters University

As you are aware Pixar doesn't do a bad movie.  This like all the rest are great.  The only down fall is the end of the movie.  Despite this problem, this movie is a great watch and one you and your kids can watch over and over again.

Star Trek: Into Darkness

This is a nice introduction to Khan.  But as all you Trekies know J.J. Abrams prequels are redefining the stories we adults grew up with.  This change in the universe is a nice twist due to the ability to basically do what they want with the story line as the new time continuum (explained in Star Trek) .  As you remember in the Wraith of Khan we find Kirks old enemy on the deserted planet ready for revenge.  Well this is the story of them first meeting and how Khan's history plays into the Star Trek Universe.  They pay homage to the old movies with a nice role reversal of Kirk and Spock in the warp core.  This is a great addition to the revamp of the series and shows the future of many more to come or a TV show as the Enterprise embarks on it's 5 year voyage to Seek out and Explore the Universe.  Own it.

World War Z

Nothing like the book.  Nice non-stop action throughout the film.  Not a Walking dead, rather a good global look at a virus mutation turning everyone into zombies.  Interesting adaptation that goes in the wrong direction of the book, but done well.  Watchable but not going to win any awards.  Rental.

Oblivion

So Tom Cruise lives in the sky, fixing the drones safeguarding the fusion generators water collection systems.  This is the power source for the space station and the survivors living on Titan a moon surrounding Jupiter.  Or is it?  Something is happening and the alien invasion we are lead to believe that destroyed the planet isn't exactly how it's suppose to go.  Beautifully shot, showing the beauty of the world once man no longer inhabits the planet.  A good Science Fiction story with just enough mystery to keep you drawn in.  Wish Morgan Freeman had a larger role.  Worth seeing, but once again not worth owning.  I recommend you see it in Blue Ray if you can, it is that pretty.

The Place Beyond the Pines

Confusing, sad and not sure what the message is.  The movie revolves around two families.  Ryan Goslings gets top billing but he's dead before half-way through the movie.  The acting holds this movie together, otherwise it would be a complete disaster.  For such a powerful story the filmography could of gone to making this a so-so movie to something everyone would have to see.  The story is powerful but is found lacking with no clear message.

Now You See Me

Everyone loves magic.  We love it because we want to believe their is something more than the daily grind.  The movie is awesome only several levels.  The first is it's a bank robbery movie, 2nd it's a magic movie, 3rd it's a revenge movie.  There might be a few other things in their I've missed but if you want to be entertained for about 2 hours this is the movie to see.  Awesome! Defiantly check it out.

Pain & Gain

Michael Bay's new film is not the best film I've ever seen, but it definitely has it's moments.  The best part of this film is the fact that it's true.  How the dumb with delusions of greatest can achieve greatness through taking it from someone else.  I can't tell if this is a commentary on America or just this specific grouping of Pectoral Elite Members.  Dwayne Johnson's performance of a crack addict who has a torrent relationship with  Jesus with the God given ability to knock people out is great.  What's interesting to note about this film is that these body builders gave Miami Dade County Police Department the biggest problem in the departments history.  Which might be another commentary on Miami's Police department.  I'm truly mixed about knowing if this film is worth seeing.  For once make up your own mind, it's a buck and a quarter at the Redbox.  But I know it's not worth the purchase.

Admission

I like the actors in previous things but this movie just sucks.  Sorry.  The backdrop of the film, Princeton, the number 2 in the school is looking to reject more students to retake the number one spot, which only heightens your desire to turn this movie off.  The only interesting thing about the film is knowing it is extremely hard to get into Princeton or any other Ivy League school.  But if you knew this fact than you won't need to see this movie.

Bullet to the Head

Have you seen "Get Carter" well this could be considered the sequel taking place in some City in Louisiana or some city with lots of crime boys with a buffer Stalone.  The only good thing about this movie is Stalone's desire and hope to kill everyone without any remorse.  If you've seen "Get Carter" you good not seeing this.

Mud

Two kids who live on the river in the backwoods of Louisiana find a boat in a tree washed up there from the last flood season.  The problem with this awesome new tree house is someone has found it ahead of them.  Enter with some pretty fucked up teeth on the run from the law.  They make a deal to help him rebuild his boat and get the hottest girl in the town Reese Witherspoon to make a run for it.  Except his girlfriend really is a ho who uses McConaughey and abuses his love for her.  The beauty of this film is not the strength of the adults in the film, but rather the young boy Ellis played by Ty Sheriden who shows he is worthy of the role.  The movie's deeper layer is the concept of integrity how it is important to have it.  Plus Ellis's best friend has the best handle I've ever heard "NECK BONE".  The characters show inner morals and possibilities of being more than nature has given them.  A good film to see but owning it might be going to far.

Olympus Has Fallen

So the White House is taken over by the North Koreans and they are here to stay.  The execution of the plan to take over the White House is awesome to watch and frightening at the same time as the amount of fire power to hijack the president is astounding if the movie has any stake in reality.  I knew the man was protected but god damn!  Now that the White House is taken it's King Leonidas to be Officer John McClane taking on the bad guys who by chance plan on pretending to blow themselves up as they make a run for it.  The only problem is the lack of memorable tag lines throughout the film.  A fun time but only as a rental.

42

So everyone knows Jackie Robinson was the first non-white man in baseball.  What this movie does is explain how Jackie Robinson dealt with the hatred of America and the people who not only rooted for him but gave him hope in his darkest moments.  It's interesting in how Brian Helgeland shows these moments not with big name stars or long moments, they are short and quick as everyday people who come out of the hatred to thank Chadwick Boseman.  These moments are the true inspiration for they show us are greatest heroes are able to fall, but because of the people they surround themselves with to support them they are able to achieve the place in history that forever change our world.  It's worth owning.

Elysium

Yep, it's Matt Damon kicking ass and taking names.  As always Matt Damon did great and the rest of the film is a great montage on the disparity between the rich and the poor.  And how eventually the greatest fear of the rich will come true.  Someone will come in and take all their fancy stuff away.  Like all movies in this category watching it at home on your big screen and surround sound is the way to go.  With all the movies you need to see this is something you will enjoy at home.

Wolverine 2

So finally we have the story of Wolverine in Japan.  For of you die hard fans this is the movie for you.  Depending on how familiar you are with the story line will determine how disappointed you are.  Despite this the movie offers continual fight scenes which is a plus but the cost of the movie which you will more than likely have to own due to your incessant need to watch and own everything with Marvel attached to it like me.  I got to say waiting for Red Box or the discounted Blue Ray addition when it comes out before Christmas is the way to go.

Dead Man Down

This recent addition to Redbox is a great movie.  I know it never got any billing for the theaters but for me that is an added bonus.  I worry about movies that have to much advertising, as in my experience they are being pumped to the people because they can't stand on their own merit.  Colin Ferrell does a great job of a father and husband taking on a drug organization in retribution for killing his family.  The story is slow in revealing his motivation which adds to the story of the scarred girl in the next building over.  As Ferrell's character lets her in he lets the audience into his pain and need for revenge.  By far a good action movie with plenty of reasons to watch.

Die Hard 5...7...who knows at this Point.

The newest Die Hard just coming to Red Box on Thursday 7/2/13 you will have just lost about 2 hours of your life.  Your better off dusting off the original, putting that on the tube cause that is the best action movie of all time.  It's a shame what they did to the series, but money is money in Hollywood.

Monsters University

Yep, it's the story of Mike and Sully meeting in college becoming first roommates, than best friends.  Awesome kid movie and still fun for the adults.  You might want to hold off on seeing it in the theater if you have young kids, besides you'll end up owning it once it comes to videos.

The Lone Ranger

High Ho Silver, Away!  This Lone Ranger is not the one we grew up with, but comes close.  The biggest issues with the film is that it is not about the Lone Ranger (yes they do get the story right) the problem is that it is about Tanto and his ever present antics.  Despite Johnny Depp stealing the show it's a great ride for a couple hours when it comes to video.

The Man with the Iron Fists

Holy Crap Rza may be my new Kung-Fu hero.  I've know the lead man from Wu-Tang Clan is a huge old school Kung-Fu fan but the depth of this film truly shows the depth of his love for the genre.  Writer, Director and Actor Rza brings back and pays homage to the classic films I grew up watching.  Not only was the story line great, the whole concept and visual fight scenes are fun to watch, unlike this new blurry, camera shaking crape Hollywood is doing now.  I love my choreograph fight scenes where I can tell who actually threw a punch kick, etc.  By far a film worth owning and watching over and over again.

Iron Man 3

Fast pace, never really starting or ending should be the tag line for this newest installment.  Robert Downing Jr. is great as the sarcastic and ever present genius in the Marvel Universe.  The action fights are fast and dizzily vomitish.  Not worth the money to see in the theaters.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation

Not worth the money in the theaters, but if your a fan of a decent shoot-em-up movie a great way to waist 2 hours.  Zultan is the President and orders the Joe's wiped out.  Duke (Tantumn) is killed and the Rock takes you back to his roots in the hood to set up shop to take down the president.

Super Man: Man of Steel

Holy Moley!  This was by far one of the best Super Man's to every be on the big screen.  The revamp of the greatest super hero of our generation got a major make over.  Going into the movie I was ready for this, for those of you who aren't and want the golden boy of our youth are not going to be happy.  Zach Snyder did a great job of reinventing the Man of Steel.  As my friend said to me in a 30 minute bitch fest on why Super Man's new persona doesn't fit with the classic comics of our youth make him feel ashamed of having watched the movie.  My response was what do you expect from Chris Nolan.  He completely remade Tim Burton's Batman into something of an anti-superhero.

This Batman revamp did did not happen in limbo like Superman, several things we must understand why the Batman remake is excepted over Superman.  The first is like Superman, Batman had Cheesy good early shows that represented Truth, Justice and the American Way in both characters.  From these early days Batman's reinvention took a turn where Superman didn't.  The first is Tim Burton's who is dark and demented, but humorous.  Than came Frank Miller's Dark Horse Batman which allowed the fans to see the evolution of Batman to a dark brooding character a contrast from the first Detective Comics which Batman appeared.

Super Man never did this.  Super Man has kept to the tried and true of his youths throughout the years.  This is by far the greatest reason for the general outrage of Super Man fans in this reinvention compared to Batman.  Knowing the new Super Man would be different, looking at the film as it's own entity I found this to be a great beginning to a 3 movie series.  Zach Snyder and Chris Nolan hit the marks in all the major areas with new and interesting ways to solve the Fortress of Solitude (20,000 year old space exploration shit from Krypton's Exploration Era) moving away from the crystal technology we have grown to love in the series.  It was nice to see a lot of Jor El and the fall of Krypton too.  The space ship that brought Superman to earth.  And the greatest of them is the decision to become a beacon of hope rather than a villain.  Throughout the movie they push this issue which leads to the biggest outrage of the movie many of you will struggle with the new identity and his determination.

Parental Gudience.

This was a great classic retake of Uncle Buck with the wit and cleverness of Billy Crystal.  He may be old but he sure is by far still one of the funniest people alive.  A great movie and take on the ridiculousness of the modern family and how old school still may be the best school.

Killing Them Softly

A Political pile of shit that is more concerned about telling America's only desire in life is money and how stupid the coming generation is.  Not enough killing for a gangster movie.  Billing Brad Pitt was just a way for them to sell the movie because they knew how bad it is.

Ganster Squad

Hell of a movie for the old school shot them up gangster films.  Ryan Gosling shouldn't of used that voice those.  Sean Penn as Marcon was awesome.
