If it hasn't been reviewed here it's not worth watching or I haven't gotten around to watching it yet.

The Thing (1951 to the Present)
I finally was able to get around to the newest The Thing by a director whose name is so complicated you can't pronounce it unless your Swedish. This movie is the prequel to the 1982 John Carpenter's film with Kurt Douglas and a few other recognizable faces from the 80s. What is so interesting abut the film is not the spaceship or the special effects (which are pretty good), its the way the film leaves you at the end, making a direct connection to a film made 30 years ago. That is the genius of the film, it makes you want to dig out the old VCR and pop in the film that made us scared to go to Antarctica because we would find a 100,000 year old frozen alien that comes back to life and kills everyone.
John Carpenter in 1982 introduced the world to a cult film in his revamp called, The Thing, a remake of a 1951 film called The Thing from Another World. Which for me started my love of movies. Carpenter made a few changes to the original but did so in such a way you recognize the original message. Unfreezing an Alien is a bad idea. The 1951 one original is elegant and not at all flashy as either of its offsprings, but the effect of the performances and the reality of the dangers a creature from another world can cause makes you consider you own existence.
So what can we expect in 30 years. I'm not sure, maybe a full revamp. Who knows. What is known is that the cult classic turned into a horror classic that finally got the explanation of how the Norwegians died is a way to spend a night. Watch the 2011 version, than the 1982 version. The love to detail Heijninjen puts into his film allows these two films to flow so well you'll be pissed you had to change disks. Finally once done watch the original 1951 film (if you can find it) to be scared again.
